Clinic of Dermatology
Dermatologic surgery – Skin biopsy
The procedure is characterized by removal of a tiny piece from the skin under topical anaesthesia with subsequent histological examination. 1-2 stitches may be necessary to close the wound after the biopsy procedure. The wound requires sterile dressings for 7-10 days. Tiny scarring may remain after the wound has healed.
Why is the skin biopsy necessary?
Obtaining a biopsy is necessary for the accurate diagnosis via histological or immunohistochemical investigation of the skin layers. Our clinic has its own histology and immunohistochemistry lab, which process the specimen and launches the result within a period of 7-10 days.
