Dermatologic surgery – Excision

Excision means complete removal of benign (nevi, fibroma, etc.) or malignant (melanoma, carcinoma, etc.) skin lesions. It prevents the risk of malignant deterioration and spreading of the tumors into the adjacent skin or internal organs (metastases).

How is the procedure carried out?

The lesions are being removed under topical or full anaesthesia by surgical team in sterile environment. The clinic offers two modernly equipped operating halls. After removing the formation by cutting it with a scalpel the wound is closed with a few stitches or special glue and sterile dressing is applied. The specimen obtained is processed and prepared for histopathological examination. The surgical wound heals in about 10-14 days. The surgical team of the clinic performs the postoperative wound care and dressing change in the outpatient sector. No hospitalization is required in most of the cases.

The possibility of scarring exists after tumor removal.

The Department of dermatology uses modern surgical materials to prevent scarring.
